#7 SAMR and Bloom's Taxonomy
This a a model that Dr. Ruben came up with to help teachers properly integrate education with technology by use 4 key points. These key points were redefinition, modification, augmentation, and substitution. Augmentation and substitution is used to enhance learning while redefinition and modification are used to transform learning. There is a fine line between these two methods. The goal is to teach above the line in the transformation area. Teaching in this area mold skills such as creating, analyzing, and evaluating. Dr. Ruben came up with some questions to help people decide if they are using technology to enhance or transform.
They are listed here:
- what will I gain if I replace the older technology with a new form of technology?
- have I added an improvement to the task process that could not be accomplished with the older technology?
- does this modification depend upon the technology?
- how is the new task uniquely made possible with the new technology?
I like this method of evaluating technology use. If the technology is not there to help students, then there is no reason to use it. I think most teachers use technology because it makes it easier on them for grading, storage, and filing. If teachers use this method, they are sure to give their students every opportunity to learn and grow.
